    Position Summary and Responsibilities

    The Senior Accountant prepares and maintains accuracy of accounting records, financial statements, or other financial reports to procedural standards.  Provides management with accurate information in the areas of cost, budgets, payroll, and forecasting in an efficient manner.  At this level, tasks and assignments tend to be general but may involve complex and/or non-routine assignments and duties are performed under limited supervision.


    Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

    • Compiles and analyzes financial information to prepare entries to accounts, such as general ledger accounts, documenting business transactions.
    • Distributes expenditures, encumbrances, receipts, and receivables according to schedules.
    • Provides record of assets, liabilities, and other financial transactions.
    • Prepares balance sheet, profit and loss statement, and other reports to summarize and interpret current and projected company financial position for managers.
    • Monitors compliance with generally accepted accounting principles and company procedures.
    • Reviews, investigates, and corrects errors and inconsistencies in financial entries, documents, and reports.
    • Collects appropriate data and prepares federal, state and local reports and tax returns.
    • Serves as back-up for other accounting duties.
    • Supports the preparation of year-end audit files and analysis.
    • Daily availability to include evenings and weekends when necessary to reach goals and deadlines

     Supervisory Responsibilities                                                   

    This job has no supervisory responsibilities but may provide technical leadership to lower

    level Accountants including carrying out lead responsibilities in accordance with applicable

    regulations and laws and the organization’s policies and procedures.  This includes, but is

    not limited to training employees, planning, assigning, directing work and resolving

    technically related work problems.

    Qualifications

    Education/Experience

    • Bachelor's degree (B.A.) from four-year college or university in Accounting, Finance or closely related field of study and 5-10 years of directly related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
    • Minimum of five years of experience in accounting. CPA is a plus.
    • Demonstrated application of accounting principles and procedures.
    • Work experience with a publicly traded company preferred.
    • Experience with intercompany accounts and multiple company books a plus.
    • Requires strong computer skills including ERP systems.
    • Must be able to work with a sense of urgency.
    • Ability to work weekends preceding the monthly close.
    • Demonstrated problem solving skills.
    • Excellent interpersonal skills.
    • Strong communication skills to handle multiple requests and deadlines effectively.
    • Enthusiasm and eagerness to contribute to the success of the company and apply your skills to streamline and improve processes.
    • Must be a self-starter and should also have the proven ability to work independently or in a team environment.
