    Position Summary and Responsibilities

    This position involves Shift Work : this means working some nights and weekends.

     

    The International Space Station (ISS) Payload Rack Officer (PRO) is a Payload Operations Integration Center (POIC) flight control position that manages the operations of the Expedite the Processing of Experiments to Space Station (EXPRESS) Racks and the resources that are required for payloads to operate within these racks. Management of these resources requires knowledge in electrical, thermal, power, and command systems.

     

    The PRO is responsible for developing an in-depth knowledge of the EXPRESS Racks and these various systems by participating in various training environments to learn how to configure and monitor the racks and how to identify and react to anomalous events.  Additionally, the onboard Payload Support Systems are configured to support science operations. Training environments include coursework, roundtable sessions, scenario sessions, simulations, and On-the-Job Training (OJT). 

     

    Upon successful completion of the training curriculum and the required certification process, the PRO is certified to support realtime payload operations onboard the ISS and will be required to work the various shifts that define 24X7 support. 

    Qualifications

    Education:

    Requires a B.S. degree in a recognized field of engineering and a basic knowledge of analysis, design and test techniques.  No prior work experience is required.  Co-op or related sub-professional experience is desirable, but no mandatory.

     

    Other:

    Candidate must be team oriented, a self starter, and possess excellent verbal communication skills.


     

    Citizenship Requirements

    Due to classified work at the facility and related access restrictions, successful applicants must maintain U.S. Citizenship to allow the person to hold a U.S. Government security clearance.
