The Station Payload Instructor will provide professional, certified Astronaut and Cosmonaut lesson instruction and engineering support primarily in the areas of the International Space Station (ISS) payload operations, payload rack facilities and experiments.
The individual will instruct extremely complicated or entirely new components or systems which requires an in-depth knowledge and support of the Space Station Training Facility (SSTF) and ISS systems.
Position is a command-qualified ISS simulation position responsible for managing payload, command data and handling, environmental, power systems, Ku & S-band telemetry, and other ISS systems from the SSTF at Johnson Space Center (JSC).
Responsibilities include: writing and reviewing payload lessons, events, plans, and documentation.
This position may require support of ISS flight following and real-time payload operations OJT. This position manages resources required to ship, capture and distribute ISS simulated payload science and system telemetry and provides support for the development and testing of new simulation tools and displays. Shift and weekend work may be required. Candidate must be able to support infrequent travel domestically or internationally.
Knowledge of engineering principles and the ability to apply them to ISS operations is essential. Previous experience with ISS payload course work in basic engineering, computer programming, coding and space instruction is highly desired but not required. Candidate must be able to apply technical knowledge and operational concepts to exercise effective decision making and initiative in a real-time and fast-paced operational and simulation environment.
Excellent communication (verbal and written), interpersonal, leadership, teamwork, technical, and administrative skills are mandatory. Candidate must have a demonstrated ability to plan, lead, and coordinate a wide range of tasks. Individual must have a demonstrated ability to develop course training and instruction. Candidate must demonstrate the ability to progress through instructor lesson certifications and simulation qualification.
Russian, Japanese, or European language skills are a plus.
