    Position Summary and Responsibilities

    Teledyne Energy Systems is seeking a mechanical engineer with experience in design/development/manufacturing of Li-Ion cells.  The ideal candidate will be a key team member in an R&D organization, developing next generation cell technology for high energy and high power applications. The successful applicant will develop, produce innovative cell designs using commercial, proprietary materials and technologies. The responsibilities of this position are to lead in cell design, prototype product development, and support manufacturing. The successful candidate will be involved, but not limited to activities such as concept cell designs, implementing designs of experiments (DOEs), overseeing cell builds, analyzing cell performance results and optimizing product in manufacturing environment.

     

    Work Description:

    • Execute battery development projects from the first concept prototype stage through optimize cell performance, validation/qualification testing, and ending in a CDR and transition to manufacturing.
    • Develop cell performance and engineering specifications through phase gate process.
    • Plan, develop and execute Design of Experiments for fabrication and testing of lithium-ion cells.
    • Provide engineering support to cell manufacturing teams in order to resolve manufacturing process issues.
    • Work closely with R&D scientists to increase understanding of failure modes, performance and life expectancy of lithium-ion cells.
    • Lead development phases including design refinement, validation, and implement in production.
    • Develop and create report, comprehensive technical specifications and drawings.
    • Assist with engineering-level test builds together with quality and operations personnel at manufacturing facilities.
    • Take an active, hands-on role in the development and production of lithium battery projects, delivering to milestones and performance objectives.
    • Develop new and unique approaches to complex problems and advance technology, and create new innovative designs.

    Qualifications

     

    Education & Experience:

     

    Required:

    • Mechanical Engineering degree or equivalent with minimum of 3 years of experience in battery/cell design/development/manufacturing, preferably Li-Ion cell development.
    • Experience in CAD, Solid Works and other design software  Have an understanding of cell and battery product design and manufacturing processes.
    • Be a self-starter, problem-solver and highly organized individual capable of identifying opportunities and taking responsibility for project implementation.
    • Hands-on experience with developing technical specifications, statement of work and assemblies.
    • Excellent analytical skills, data analysis and statistical interpretation.
    • Comfortable to work in a lab setting, manufacturing, bringing a proactive attitude with a willingness to take ownership and driven results.
    • Resourceful, organized, with strong attention to detail and excellent interaction skills, capable of rapidly integrating observations and results into subsequent development activities.
    • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
    • Ability to work in a team environment and independently.
    • Ability to read/interpret drawing and standard operating procedures.
    • Proficiency with Microsoft® Office products.
    • Excellent record keeping skills.
    • U.S. Citizenship required for government clearance and or data/software access.

    Desired:

     

    • Demonstrates expertise and success in design and development of components and assemblies for lithium-ion battery.
    • Cell modeling experience withFEM, ANSYS, COMSOL, MATLAB and other numerical modeling methods.
