    Position Summary and Responsibilities

    This position will contribute in a team environment to the development, fabrication, maintenance, troubleshooting, and operation of specialized gas analysis equipment.  Systems on which the Operator/Maintainer will work include gas chromatographs, manometers, vacuum pumps, nuclear measurement equipment, highly specialized electronics, and helium leak check equipment.


    The position contributes toward:

    • Equipment development projects,
    • Gas laboratory analysis operations and maintenance, and
    • Facility support needs, to include escorting 3rd party contractors.

    Responsibilities pertaining to equipment development projects include:

    • Assemble, troubleshoot, and repair electronic, mechanical, and vacuum systems using mechanical drawing packages, wiring schematics, and technical instructions.
    • Support analysis, design, development, and testing needs, under the direction of a project manager.
    • Assist in developing procedures and determining test equipment and facility requirements.
    • Implement test procedures and accurately record data.
    • Communicate data findings to management and engineering staff.
    • Review drawings, parts lists, specifications, and technical reports to ensure compatibility between systems, subsystems, and components.
    • Assess the impact of engineering changes to system operation.
    • Perform research and acquisition planning for new equipment development.
    • Research and obtain sources and quotes for parts, equipment, material, and services.
    • Track inventory usage and notify personnel as inventory needs arise.

    Responsibilities pertaining to gas laboratory analysis operations and maintenance include:

    • Develop a working knowledge and ability to operate laboratory processing equipment including gas chromatography, volume measurement systems, and vacuum systems.
    • Perform maintenance, calibration, and preventative maintenance routines on specialized laboratory equipment.
    • Develop, revise, review, and validate laboratory procedures and technical manuals.
    • Maintain good laboratory housekeeping standards and assist with laboratory facility maintenance as required.
    • Communicate equipment findings to supervisory staff.

    Responsibilities pertaining to facility support needs include:

    • Perform End-of-Day Safety/Security procedures.
    • Assist network administrator for cable installation/maintenance.
    • Escort 3rd party contractors throughout facility, to include electricians, plumbers, HVAC personnel, etc.




    Requires a high school education or equivalent and completion of technical coursework in subjects applicable to assignments. Must have a minimum of six (6) years experience in the same or closely related work.



    • Microsoft Office familiarity, particularly Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
    • Ability to work independently with minimum supervision.
    • Capable of lifting up to 50 pounds.
    • High school graduate, Associates degree preferred.
    • 4 years of maintenance or laboratory experience.
