    Position Summary and Responsibilities

    Teledyne Marine Systems is seeking a Senior Scientist to join our growing research and development team. This position will involve support of contract research and development programs, new product development, and customization of existing products for novel applications. The desired applicant will possess a background in computational mechanics/physics, numerical simulation and mechanical design applied to acoustical oceanography and underwater vehicles.


    Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

    • Lead development of concepts and electro-mechanical designs for oceanographic acoustic instruments and underwater vehicles
    • Lead computer Multiphysics simulation and Matlab modeling of AUV and glider dynamics, deep water shell stiffness and instrumentation material properties.
    • Computer simulation of ocean dynamics for the support of special underwater systems (underwater AUV navigation, communication, sensor fusion systems)    
    • Parametric evaluation of the mechanical systems
    • Planning factory acceptance tests and leading the experimental field works independently and together with the customer.  
    • Actively contribute to the capture and execution of contract research and development
    • Participate in technical conference and submit peer reviewed papers to conferences and technical journals
    • Work closely with the senior technical team
    • Attend project meetings and participate in presentations to groups

    • MSME or MS Physics degree, Ph.D. preferred, from four-year college or university; eight years related experience and/or training in the computational mechanical engineering field or computational physics; or equivalent combination of education and experience
    • Electro-mechanical system modeling and design experience
    • Underwater acoustic system modeling and design
    • A strong desire for hands-on work with hardware in the laboratory and production environments including prototype fabrication and evaluation
    • Clear, effective communication skills and the ability to clearly capture knowledge gained including analyses that describe design trade studies and technical concepts
    • Must be able to travel when required to support equipment and sales opportunities at customer site and at sea tests
    • Candidate must be a U.S. Citizen
    • Active Security Clearance


    • Ability to program control and data processing algorithms in C and Matlab
    • Knowledge of Comsol or other computation physics software packages
    • Knowledge of Finite Element Analysis
    • Knowledge of SolidWorks design experience
    • Knowledge of oceanographic instruments and underwater vehicles
    • Knowledge of robotics
