    Position Summary and Responsibilities


    The Software Engineer is responsible for the analysis, design, programming and modification of firmware for embedded instrumentation systems and PC software to support the instrumentation during testing, configuration and operation. The candidate will be required to document troubleshooting, test setup, test execution, data analysis and reporting of test results. The candidate should be able to anticipate common problems, design limitations and the results of unusual user input on the software design. The candidate will be required to document software sufficiently for user manuals and maintenance. The individual will need to interface with personnel in other departments to gather system requirements and will need to generate status reports to document the progress. Creation of test procedures and work instructions will be required. This position will require interface with production, calibration and sales personnel.

    • Bachelor's of Science from a four-year college or university in Computer Engineering or related field and two or more years of directly related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
    • Able to read and follow drawings, schematics and procedures.
    • Experience or coursework dealing with ANSI C.
    • Experience or coursework dealing with embedded software development.
    • Experience working with word processing and spreadsheet software.
    • Experience in assembly language, user interface design or serial interfaces (RS-232, RS-485) is helpful.
    • Experience working with Labview programming environment is desirable.
    • Experience building executables for the personal computer environment preferred.
    • Must be capable of following instructions and creating clear communications.
    • Must have good reading, spelling, and grammatical skills in the English language.
    • Must be able to work independently.
    • Must have good logical reasoning skills to troubleshoot software failure.
    • Must have basic understanding of microprocessor memory map and input/output ports.
    • Must be able to operate compilers, create code and view code.
    • Must be able to understand algebraic equations sufficiently well to convert them into computer algorithms.
    • May require light physical labor, lifting objects of up to 10 pounds.
    • Must be able to work safely around pressurized tanks and electrical current.
