Position Summary and Responsibilities

General Overview

The Senior Production Planner manages, reviews, and maintains production schedules for all work centers within the facility to ensure that the master production schedule is being executed, effective capacity planning is ensured, accurate inventories are maintained, and shipments are made on time to meet the customer needs. This position works closely with operations, process and product engineering, sales, purchasing, and accounting to ensure that customer needs and organizational objectives are met.  Working with production supervisors and purchasing, labor issues, material issues, and machine capacity must continually be balanced and communicated to management.  This position supports material requirements at all levels (i.e., finished goods, subassemblies, and raw material.  These objectives include on time delivery, product quality, maintaining acceptable cost models, and minimizing inventory levels.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Schedule all product line processes, utilizing the ERP system, including priorities for two shifts to ensure continues material and production flow.
  • Schedule all work stations in the Post Molding Operations department using ERP system.
  • Coordinate and plan materials requirements for new product introductions, including review of new BOM’s and cut-in dates for build verification and production units.
  • Proactively review material supply and demand to determine push/pull actions appropriate to impact manufacturing MPS and supply MRP exception messages.
  • Review material shortages, stock outages, and safety stock levels, coordinate activities for materials availability and production schedule to meet customer requirements.
  • Capacity analysis for specific functional areas.
  • Communicate with the Purchasing Department to coordinate incoming materials to fit scheduling needs.
  • Project monthly revenue based on schedule for a rolling 3-month period.
  • Help facilitate inventory turns with JIT/KANBAN disciplines.
  • Assume active role in daily production meetings and support of sales and customer requirements.
  • Communicates any risk of schedule compliance to management and supervisors which could be component related, machine down, capacity situations, etc.
  • Resolves day-to-day issues concerning scheduling and inventory discrepancies.

    • Requires Bachelor’s Degree in Operations, Business Administration, Supply Chain, Engineering or comparable discipline.
    • Requires at least 5 years of production planning in a technical manufacturing environment.
    • APICS, AME or ISM certification preferred.
    • Knowledge of lean manufacturing, 6S, and Kaizen required.
    • Working knowledge of ISO preferred.
    • Experienced with Microsoft Office Suite and ERP/MRP.
    • Possess functional knowledge of support department operations (Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, Procurement, etc.).
    • Understands the manufacturing process of technical products and electromechanical systems.
    • Strong verbal and written communication skills and demonstrated success working in a team environment.
    • Excellent organizational skills to balance priorities.
    • Understanding of all product documentation required to produce the product to specification.
