Position Summary and Responsibilities

Teledyne Controls is seeking a seasoned Systems Architecture & Design Engineer to provide technical leadership in company product strategy, research and development activities, and engineering design on any size project by using working knowledge of systems engineering practices, work products and processes.

 

Essential duties:

  • Identify and respond to new and emerging strategic issues that impact the operating environment
  • Demonstrated innovative problem solving and experience evaluating future technologies
  • Leverage significant experience in systems engineering on product development programs for the development and improvement of approaches for specifying requirements, needs analysis, assessing alternatives, and defining development artifacts appropriate for scaled agile development
  • Knowledge of systems engineering process for the development of system performance requirements, objectives, evaluation criteria and analysis for aircraft systems.
  • Evaluation of operational needs to define and coordinate system performance requirements, integrate technical parameters and assure compatibility of all physical, functional and program interfaces
  • Develops and implements organizational approaches to systems engineering and requirement analysis, relationship to business drivers/constraints, relationship to architecture drivers/constraints, quality attributes, and considers impact to the software development process.
  • Solid knowledge of certification test processes, support certification test equipment design and assist in troubleshooting certification failures.
  • Prepares, reviews and conducts internal and customer Design Reviews
  • Reviews customer requirements for adequacy and resolves/clarifies any ambiguous, redundant or unverifiable requirements.
  • Provides effective communication to business and technical community on behalf of the systems engineering discipline.
  • Provides knowledge and process support as well as coaching/mentoring as needed on systems engineering principles/practices. 

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Systems Engineering or related Engineering disciplines
  • At least fifteen (15) years’ of experience in Systems Engineering or related
  • Alternately a minimum of twelve (12) years’ of experience in a direct Avionics Engineering environment
  • Master’s degree in Systems Engineering or related discipline strongly preferred. 
  • Experience in an Aerospace and/or Avionics Engineering environment strongly preferred.  Combination of Education and Experience in an Aerospace and/or Avionics Engineering environment is acceptable.
  • Solid understanding with the use of DOORs for document development and traceability required
  • Deep understanding of analog and digital aircraft interfaces including ARINC 429 and RS422 required
  • Strong understanding with Ethernet technologies and aircraft avionics networks required
  • Strong understanding with hardware and software Design Assurance requirements (level C through E) required
  • Knowledge of avionics communications technologies such as WiFi, cellular, VHF, SATCOM and IFE internet required
  • Solid understanding of Design Portioning, Digital Communication, Software Structures required
  • Advance knowledge with Microsoft Office application tools: Outlook, Excel, Word, Project and Visio; Abode Acrobat required
  • Ability to use environmental, electrical, software evaluation and debugging tools.
  • Ability to evaluate software code, Hardware Design Language, Schematics and Mechanical Drawings is also required.
  • Ability to write procedures to be used by engineering and production, systems requirements documents and complex test reports summarizing tests, test setups and results.
  • Flexibility - ability to interface with customers and other engineering groups.
  • Clear documentation and presentation skills. Comfortable working on-site at major aerospace OEMs, domestically and abroad.
  • Hands-on experience with integration design and execution in hardware, software and system labs
  • Knowledge of commercial Avionic Data Management related equipment required
  • Ability to write complex systems requirements documents, technical white papers and technical proposals required
  • Familiarity with ARINC/Boeing/Airbus specifications required
  • Familiarity with DO-178/DO-254/DO-160 specifications required
  • Familiarity with GRESS and ABD-100/200 required
  • Clear documentation and presentation skills required. Comfortable working on-site at major aerospace OEMs, domestically and abroad
  • Ability to evaluate software code, Hardware Design Language, Schematics and Mechanical Drawings is also required
  • Hands-on experience with integration design and execution in hardware, software and system labs required
  • Experience dealing with the formal qualification of environmental, electromagnetic, system safety (including Failure Mode Analysis), system security and aircraft certification required
  • Ability to use environmental, electrical, software evaluation and debugging tools required.
  • Familiarity with commercial aircraft electrical and electronic environments required
  • This position requires up to 10% domestic and international travel with notice
