Position Summary and Responsibilities

Evaluates, selects, negotiates, places, expedites, provides technical liaison and otherwise administers a wide variety of procurement contracts of above average complexity, diversification or expense.  Responsibilities include the following:


  • Performs purchasing at the most favorable prices consistent with quality, quantity and other factors, raw materials such as sheet, bar, tubes, tool steel, aluminum, copper, brass, foundry scrap metal, sand or build to print items. Provide status reports for ordered material.
  • Works closely with company technical and scientific personnel.
  • Initiates RFQs/RFPs, review bids, negotiate terms and pricing.
  • Negotiates best pricing/availability to increase company margin.
  • Identifies and resolves purchasing problems/concerns; follows up to ensure timely and accurate product delivery.
  • Facilitates solutions to schedule changes and issues with suppliers.
  • Ensures adherence to established policies and procedures, quality assurance programs, safety standards and all government documentation requirements.
  • Writes cost analysis and price justifications for large procurements on government contracts that satisfy any FAR/DFAR requirements.
  • Ensures that RMA goods to vendors are timely.


Education and Experience:


The desired knowledge base for this job includes a Bachelor of Science in a recognized field of engineering or business, or equivalent, plus three years experience in procurement activities.  


Strongly Preferred:


  • 3+ years in a wide variety of procurement contracts of above average complexity, diversification or expense.
  • Experience buying for government contracts.
  • Working knowledge of FAR/DFAR.
  • Ability to handle multiple priorities and deliver on key deadlines.
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings.
  • Ability to quickly learn the company’s purchasing and inventory processes and procedures. Must adhere to the company’s strict standards of documentation and internal controls to accurately and efficiently process and place purchase orders.
  • Experience working with multiple ERP systems.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office including Excel.
  • Excellent negotiation skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and cooperatively in a cross-functional team and know when to ask for guidance.
  • Excellent verbal, written and professional interpersonal skills.
