Position Summary and Responsibilities

Job Summary: The Purchasing Manager has the responsibility to manage and control all company purchases and the personnel who make those purchases.

 

Reports to / Supervisor: Director Supply Chain

 

Key functions of Job: Management of purchasing includes the responsibility of obtaining the best value for all goods and services that the company buys and obtaining the delivery of products and services to meet realistic schedules

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities of Job:

  • The Purchasing Manager supervises all purchases to ensure the most economical goods and services are obtained, that the transactions meet the requirements of law, support company policies, and are conducted in a fair & ethical manner.
  • Purchasing Manager reviews all purchase requests to ensue that products or services are purchased for a reasonable and legitimate business purpose and that the requests for purchases have been properly authorized.
  • The Purchasing Manager personally conducts negotiations with suppliers as necessary. Agreements, purchase orders, or other contractual documents are personally prepared and / or approved by the Purchasing Manager or by other designated members of the Purchasing Department as delegated by the Purchasing Manager.
  • The Purchasing Manager selects and supervises personnel within the purchasing department to ensure staff members are properly trained, that they conduct business according to policy and procedure, and that the interests of the Company are protected.
  • The Purchasing Manager plans and manages the purchasing activities so that the supplier base consists of the fewest qualified suppliers necessary to support & fulfill the needs of the Company efficiently and at the most favorable cost.
  • The Purchasing Manager conducts research and analyses to develop strategies that address supply issues and implements countermeasures to avoid interruptions in Supply.
  • The Purchasing Manager keeps stays current with new products, processes, Suppliers, and recommends those that could be beneficial to the company.
  • The Purchasing Manager keeps Management informed of any business development that may affect the company and makes recommendations regarding those developments.
  • The Purchasing Manager visits suppliers as needed to ensure their ability to satisfy contractual obligations and they are serving the company's best interests.
  • The Purchasing Manager attends trade shows and seminars to keep informed about new products and the latest technology.
  • The Purchasing Manager prepares the annual budgets for the purchasing department and monitors the approved budget to control all costs.

 

Qualifications

Skills and Specifications:

  • Must be able to manage multiple priorities at one time
  • Must have excellent problem solving skills
  • Much have strong communication skills – both written and verbal
  • Must have intermediate to advanced computer skills; Microsoft Office as well as on-site software and equipment
  • Must be able to over overtime as needed; this position often requires work weeks in excess of 40 hours, including evenings and weekends

 

Education and Qualification:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business or related field

 

  • Must have 10 years of Purchasing or related experience
  • Electronics manufacturing experience a plus with at least 5 years of experience in direct supervision of personnel
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen
