Position Summary and Responsibilities

Position Purpose

Manages Thin Film Optics programs ensuring schedule and cost objectives are met or exceeded and serves as technical leader in the expansion of the TFO segment.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assumes a leadership role in expansion of current Thin Film Optics research, providing technical direction in optical design, optical systems modeling and test
  • Functions as the Principal Investigator on selected Research & Development programs
  • Develops, markets and manages a wide range of new thin film R&D and production programs for government and commercial markets
  • Involved in the expansion and follow-on of current programs.
  • As proposal manager, generates technical and cost inputs as well as coordinates/oversees other department’s inputs to insure all are compliant to the Request for Proposal and are submitted in accordance with customer requirements
  • Serves as a technical consultant to customer and internal teams to ensure proposal, specification requirements and deliverables are aligned with business goals
  • Ensures program technical, schedule and cost objectives are met or exceeded
  • Supports the negotiation of contracts/subcontracts and contractual changes
  • Communicates with customers and company management regarding development progress, operational decisions, and contract clarification
  • Develops solutions to program problems and directs the work of staff assigned to programs from various departments
  • Generates, analyzes and summarizes program metrics for trends and causes
  • Prepares and delivers customer briefings and presentations
  • Develops new business and expands product lines
  • Frequently works with Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system for tracking and reporting of data
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to work both in a team and independently with strong interpersonal skills
  • Ability to recommend optical testing methods appropriate to verify predicted performance of optical designs
  • Strong written, verbal and presentation communication skills
  • Manages multiple and competing priorities
  • Ability to execute, manage, and produce quality products that meet technical, cost, and schedule goals
  • Experience in requirements analysis, schedule development, action item management, requirement change management and overall development and progress metrics
  • Skilled in preparing proposals, estimates, technical documents, progress/status reports and other contract deliverable items
  • Ability to evaluate proposals, estimates, technical documents, and related contract deliverable items
  • Ability to obtain a Secret Clearance
  • Advanced computer proficiency level using Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, & PowerPoint)
  • Displays exemplary ethics and business conduct and performs work cognizant of safe work practices

Education and Experience

  • Minimum of ten (10) plus years of experience in thin film device and coating design R&D and production program technology
  • Master’s Degree in Chemistry, Physics, Electrical Engineering, Material Science or other related discipline with fifteen (15) years of experience or PhD with ten (10)
  • Experience in engineering project management and/or technical program management required
  • Secret Level Clearance is preferred
