Produces machine parts by programming, setting up, and operating a computer numerical control (CNC) machine; maintaining quality and safety standards; keeping records; maintaining equipment and supplies.
-Reviews 3D CAD design blueprints.
- Makes calculations for programming including where materials should be cut.
-Translates instructions into a computer automated manufacturing (CAM) program.
-Checks completed programs by running simulations or tests.
-Prepares geometric layout of designs using proper software.
-Determines sequence of operations in a program.
-Chooses cutting tools that will be needed.
-Analyzes job order and performs necessary calculations.
-Writes programs and modifies existing ones for increased efficiency.
-Analyzes and selects speeds and cutting tools for programs.
-Makes improvements to set up times for a task and contouring of complex shapes.
-Simplifies tooling time for workers and increases productivity for the client.
-Evaluates all completed designs to validate their functions and ensure they successfully reduce time.
-Monitors all programs to make sure they follow blueprint instructions safely while completing the task.
-Complies with all safety rules and regulations.
-Maintains equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements.
-Follows manufacturer's instructions;troubleshoots malfunctions and calls for repairs.
-Maintains specifications by drilling, grooving, and cutting, including turning, facing, and thread chasing.
-Taking measurements; detecting malfunctions; troubleshooting processes ; adjusting programming .
-Sharpening and replacing worn tools; adhering to quality assurance procedures and processes.
-Plans stock inventory to determine amount needed.
-Maintains equipment by completing preventative maintenance requirements.
-Maintains specifications by observing, drilling, grooving, and cutting.

-High School Diploma
-Associates degree in CNC programming, a computer related field or a mechanical field.
-Knowledge of electronics and machine tools.
-Experience with programming.
-Continuing education courses to learn new techniques.
-Certification from an accredited technical school
