Position Summary and Responsibilities

Position Summary:

Responsible for the development and implementation of software and firmware for program specific applications and systems. Plans, improves, and manages software applications from inception to use, including preparation and creation of instructional technical manuscripts for firmware/software operation.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Leads the design and debug of real-time embedded systems for interface, command, data acquisition and handling including hands-on troubleshooting of hardware and firmware
  • Leads the development of signal acquisition and conditioning circuits capable of supporting low noise performance in a mixed signal environment
  • Develops plans to design and port existing IP for robustness and to support extreme operating environments including the necessary equipment and processes to perform regression, environmental and formal verification testing
  • Reviews customer specifications and requirements, drives system level trade-offs in areas of performance and quality to optimize cost and schedule
  • Manages, collaborates and develops technical partnerships with a diverse set of contributors including program managers, product owners, vendors and customers.
  • Documents design and development of test procedures, prepares reviews and meetings with department personnel, management and customers
  • Frequently works with Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system for tracking and reporting of data
  • Designs, implements and documents PC and microcontroller-based software modules for image acquisition, image analysis and instrument communication in close collaboration with the Engineering staff
  • Provides technical and application support to TIS customers regarding SIDECAR ASIC, JADE2 and SAM hardware, and their associated HxRG software and firmware
  • Documents software and generates user manuals and help files
  • Works with Quality Assurance documents compliant to AS9100 standard
  • Provides inputs for program bids as required


Qualifications & Competencies


To perform the job successfully, an individual should demonstrate the following qualifications and competencies:

  • Must be proactive, curious, driven and have the ability to decompose a complex diverse specification into a low development plan with clear acceptance criteria and milestones
  • Ability to code firmware and software languages, for both embedded and PC-based environments
  • Good track record of mixed signal designs which include micro-controllers, DSPs, memory and analog components such as ADCs and DACs
  • Proficient knowledge in one or more of the following areas: ARM, PPC, MIPS, Memory subsystems such as DDR 1/2/3 and Flash, Power Subsystem (PoE, AC/DC and DC/DC conversion), high speed, high bandwidth, peripheral buses such as PCle, and USB/HSIC
  • Strong verbal, written and presentation skills to frequently interact with internal and external personnel
  • Advanced computer proficiency using Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel & PowerPoint)
  • Displays exemplary ethics and business conduct and performs work cognizant of safe work practices
  • Hands-on experience with high-speed interfaces and low noise mixed signal designs
  • PC programming and data analysis environments: C#, VB, C++, IDL, Labview
  • PC hardware integration, including DLLs for frame-grabbers, IEEE-488, USB and serial communication ports
  • Numerical data analysis algorithms and techniques for computing statistics
  • Image visualization methods and graphical display of data



Education and/or Experience


  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Computer Engineering or related field with three (3) plus years of experience
