Position Summary and Responsibilities

This is a temporary agency position with potential to convert to permanent depending upon business performance.



Summary Verifies and keeps records on incoming and outgoing shipments and prepares items for shipment by performing the following duties.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.



  • Compares identifying information and counts, weighs, or measures items of incoming and outgoing shipments to verify information against bills of lading, invoices, orders, or other records.
  • Determines best method of shipment for both domestic and international shipments.
  • Coordinate with shipping carriers to schedule pick-ups and track shipments.
  • Assembles wooden or cardboard containers or selects preassembled containers and inserts items to be shipped.
  • Nails covers on wooden crates and binds containers with metal tape.
  • Stamps, stencils, or glues identifying information and shipping instructions/labels onto crates or containers.
  • Posts weights and shipping charges, and affixes postage.
  • Examines outgoing shipments to ensure shipments meet specifications.



  • Unpacks and examines incoming shipments, rejects damaged items, records shortages, and corresponds with shipper to rectify damages and shortages.
  • Maintains inventory of shipping materials and supplies.
  • May operate tier lift truck or use hand truck to move, convey, or hoist shipments from shipping and receiving platform to storage or work area.
  • Work with carriers to facilitate unloading, storage and organization of products.
  • Report/deliver incoming packages to appropriate department/end-user in a timely manner.
  • Maintain accurate log of materials to reflect incoming and outgoing traffic of products.
  • Contact appropriate personnel whenever there are issues with the items being received.

Education and/or Experience


  • High school diploma / general education degree (GED); and minimum of 4 years directly related experience or combination of experience and related training.
  • Experience working with FedEx, UPS, DHL and various brokers.
  • Solid understanding of how to prepare Commercial Invoice and Shippers Letter of Instruction.
  • Good understanding of Schedule B and HTS (HS) Codes.
  • Good understanding of ECCN – Export Control Classification Numbers.
  • Good understanding of how to file SED – Shipper’s Export Declaration.
  • Experience with ERP systems and related transactions.
  • Must possess a clean driving record and valid CA driver license in order to drive company truck as required.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
  • Experience with Microsoft office to include Word, Excel and Outlook.


 Physical Requirements

  • Requires frequent standing, sitting, twisting & bending at the neck/waist, stooping or kneeling, pushing/pulling, lifting & carrying up to 50lbs.
  • Occasional walking, lifting & carrying up to 70lbs.
  • Requires clear vision and ability to identify and distinguish colors.
  • Repetitive movements of the wrist, hands and/or fingers.
  • Ability to reach below and above shoulder level.
