Position Summary and Responsibilities

The Mechanical Engineer Intern actively participates in innovative projects and gains valuable hands-on experience within the field of study.  Performs mechanical engineering assignments with clear and specified objectives using established plans and specifications.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Works with engineers on specified projects based upon departmental needs
  • Assigned projects may include: creation of drawings, design of components and assemblies, generating engineering change order documentation and/or development of electro-mechanical drawing assemblies and instructions.
  • Applies academic knowledge and principles of engineering to hands-on projects that increase product performance, improve quality and manufacturability and reduce costs
  • Develops technical expertise and organizational skills required for entry level engineering design and development of high technology products

Education/Experience

  • Actively pursuing BS or MS in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited university. Junior standing or higher is preferred.
  • Proficient with 3D modeling in Solidworks and 2D modeling in AutoCAD LT, as well as other CAD programs
  • Strong computer skills, including MS Office applications
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to perform assigned tasks and complete work on schedule with minimal supervision
  • Experience with mechanical and electromechanical assemblies preferred
  • Relocation and/or housing is not available for this position. Student should be in a commutable distance to San Diego, CA, with reliable transportation.

Please note the salary range ($31,238.00 - $56,228.00) is a general guideline for this job level and location.  When extending an offer, a variety of factors are considered such as responsibilities of the position, relevant education and experience, certifications, knowledge and skills.
