Scientific Systems, Inc. (SSI) is a world leader in the design and manufacture of positive-displacement piston pumps for a wide variety of analytical, clinical, preparative, and fluid-metering applications.

Summary

Under general supervision, performs a wide variety of repetitive and non-repetitive bench or line mechanical subassembly and assembly operations of a semi-skilled nature to produce products, also making required minor adjustments in the assemblies as needed.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

1. Read, interpret and follow basic blueprints, diagrams, engineering drawings, specifications, bills of materials, and other written instructions or procedures to accurately assemble equipment and products
2. Utilize hand held tools such as a hand held screw and drill gun
3. Maintain inventory of product in work stations
4. Perform quality work checks to insure the product meets quality standards
5. Identify product defects and complete appropriate documentation when defects are identified
6. Rework and/or repair assembled equipment and products according to engineering specification changes
7. Perform all work in accordance with quality standards and established  safety procedures
8. Maintain a clean and safe work area

1. Demonstrated ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, and other printed documentation.
2. Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate with all peers and management staff, and be able to work within the team structures. This includes assisting with training and dissemination of information vital to the growth of the team, department, and company.
3. Requires basic math skills.
4. Demonstrated ability in the use of hand tools, power tools, and measuring devices.
5. Demonstrated ability to use chemicals/compounds correctly and safely by following prescribed directions and the use of Safety Data Sheets (SDS).
6. Must be able to work in a variety of physical positions. This includes standing and sitting, generally more than 25% of the time is spent in a standing position.
7. Ability to interpret the solder connection results made after a printed circuit board has been wave soldered, and demonstrated ability to make the appropriate changes to the solder machine settings if problems are identified.
8. Have the ability to lift and carry items between the weights of 5-25 pounds. Depending on the product line this job is associated with may need to be able to lift 100 lbs.

Education and/or Experience

Requires a high school diploma and some degree of vocational or technical training and a minimum of 2-5 years of directly related experience.

Language Skills                                             

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.  Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.  Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

Mathematical Skills                                                 

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.  Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

Reasoning Ability                                                     

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Computer Skills                                            

To perform this job successfully, an individual should be able to enter time and data into a computer system.  An individual may require knowledge of database software; inventory software; manufacturing software; spreadsheet software and/or word processing software.

• Follows all import/export requirements, consulting with facility import/export personnel as required.

Other Skills and Abilities

• Basic Knowledge of ISO and/or AS9100
• Working knowledge of Lean Manufacturing/6 Sigma/Kaizen
• Knowledge of specific software (design, analysis, ERP…)

Other Qualifications

• Active Government Security Clearance
• US Citizenship with ability to attain/maintain government security clearance.
