Reporting to the President and working closely with the entire executive team, the VP of Business Development is responsible for expanding Teledyne Controls’ business by identifying new opportunities in the company’s core and adjacent markets. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced business development professional with extensive experience in commercial aviation and information management solutions to bring his/her unique set of skills and relationships to a dynamic and growing company. The ideal candidate has a strong background and experience in the commercial aviation industry with intimate understanding of airlines operations and value proposition generation, particularly working with senior level decision makers. He/she will have the ability to build relationships and develop networks with airlines management, OEMs, other Teledyne companies, and other potential partners in the industry.

 

Teledyne Controls seeks confident, resourceful and self-initiating team players with the ability to thrive in complex and multi-pronged work environment where each individual contributor is expected to drive projects forward while also working collaboratively to achieve shared goals. He/she will be expected to work independently, make important decisions about business objectives and strategies, and lead the execution of key initiatives. He/She will be expected to understand and leverage the strengths of Teledyne Technologies’ diverse set of technologies and talent to bring new and creative solutions to the industry.

 

• Identify new business opportunities by developing networks and independently identifying and developing ideas and strategies for sales and business development.
• Collaborate with members of the executive team to ensure initiatives are developed and executed successfully. Recommends specific business strategy and execution plans.
• Work collaboratively with the Sales and Marketing and the Technology team to develop creative outreach strategies to attract and retain new customers and business opportunities, and to create relative value propositions to persuade key decision makers at key customers.
• Work closely with the Sales and Marketing team to develop effective product and services promotional collateral.
• Work closely with the Product development teams to develop Sales Tool Kit information and training for sales personnel.
• Works closely and collaboratively with the Sales and Marketing team to develop and implement strategic business growth plans.
• Generates market data and new business objectives. Discovers or generates specific business opportunities in company’s core and adjacent markets.
• Generates market data, competitive analysis, reports and presentations for company’s executives at the highest levels.
• Researches, analyzes, and monitors financial, technological, and demographic factors to better understand our markets, customers, and the competitive landscape.
• Represents company at trade association meetings to promote products and solutions.  
• Represent company at industry organizations to understand and influence market direction and trends in accordance with companies’ products and solutions.
• Become an expert in the company’s products and solutions, understand where they sit within the larger ecosystem and recommend new product offerings leveraging the technologies from broad portfolio of Teledyne Technologies.
• Identify potential strategic partners, alliances, and acquisitions.
• Travel to business development meetings, industry conferences, trade shows, etc.
• Consult prospective customers regarding implementation of business initiatives, ROI, value proposition, and budgets in support of purchasing company’s products and services.
• Identify RFP opportunities, manage coordinated team response and support submitting winning proposals.
• Over time, as the team grows, manage 1-3 people in the Business Development/Strategy function in support of New Product Initiatives (NPI).

• Bachelor’s Degree and a minimum of 10 years of professional work experience in commercial aviation, preferably with a major airline or supplier of products similar to Teledyne Controls’. Combination of education and experience acceptable. 
• Intimate understanding of how airlines operate, develop value propositions, and make investments decisions.
• Exceptional verbal, written communication, and presentation skills
• Independent critical thinking and creative problem-solving skills.
• Highly organized and detail-oriented, with the ability to keep multiple projects engagements active.
• Results oriented with a bias toward action.
• Proven leadership skills as a business executive within a complex multi-faceted business environment in commercial aviation.
• Ability to establish a strong connection and credibility with prospects through the highest level of professionalism, ethics, integrity, mutual respect, and value-added approach.
• Team player with the independence of thought and opinion to provide candor and honesty when making or recommending key business decisions.
• Ability to organize and manage effective teams
• Ability to navigate successfully in an organizational structure where boundaries for roles and responsibilities may not be perfectly defined. Able to lead through effective persuasion, as opposed to hierarchy, across organizational and geographical boundaries.
