Position Summary and Responsibilities

This position is primarily responsible for coordinating Teledyne’s patent prosecution activities, overseeing maintenance of its patent portfolio, and providing intellectual property paralegal and administrative assistance and support to the Teledyne Intellectual Property Committee. It requires top-notch interpersonal, organizational and computer skills and ability to: pay attention to detail; meet deadlines; work under pressure and with frequent interruptions. The ideal candidate will have wide-ranging experience, and the ability to use professional level concepts and company objectives to resolve complex issues in creative and effective ways. The position also requires working on complex issues where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of variable factors; exercising judgment in selecting methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for obtaining results; networking with key contacts outside one’s own area of expertise; and determining critical methods and procedures on new assignments. This position has access to and regularly works with sensitive, confidential information.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Assist with organization and maintenance of intellectual property portfolios (primarily patent) and intellectual property title and agreement databases, files, and other records (including updating and archiving them as required).
  • Communicate with established points of contact for various company business units and outside law firms.
  • Calendar and track deadlines and assist with insuring deadlines are met.
  • Periodically assist with IP training and webinars.
  • Periodically assist with due diligence activities and integration support associated with Teledyne's acquisitions.
  • Review and process legal department invoices for accuracy and assist with their timely payment.
  • Assist with researching, reviewing, drafting and filing of various governmental filings.
  • Conducts research on projects as directed by corporate paralegals and attorneys.
  • May review and ensure the company's compliance with regulations.
  • Assists internally in analyzing documents.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Hours are generally 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. , although some evening and weekend time may be required at peak times.

Supervisory Responsibilities
This job has no supervisory responsibilities but involves oversight of outside vendors and provision of subject matter leadership to other employees, including carrying out lead responsibilities in accordance with applicable regulations and laws and the organization’s policies and procedures. Education and/or Experience
BA/BS or equivalent and USPTO patent agent registration preferred. Requires 6-8 years of experience managing patent prosecution and portfolios and knowledge of automation equipment/software related to activities.

Language Skills: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively with other employees of organization.

Mathematical Skills: Mathematical Skills: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, and percentages. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

Computer Skills: To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of MS Outlook; MS Excel and MS Word software.

Intellectual Property: Basic knowledge of intellectual property (e.g. patents, copyright, trademark, and trade secret), and the processes by which intellectual property rights are obtained and maintained.

Corporate: Basic knowledge of corporate organization.

Reporting: Ability to efficiently summarize and provide timely reports on the status of ongoing activities.

Other Essential Duties

  • Follows all import/export requirements, consulting with facility import/export personnel as required.

Other Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of Inteum Minuet
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Power Piont, Outlook, Access)
  • Ability to perform internet searching in general, and patent and trademark searches in particular would be beneficial.
  • Familiarity with USPTO, EPO, and other government online intellectual property databases would be beneficial.

Other Qualifications
Active Government Security Clearance
US Citizenship with ability to attain/maintain government security clearance.
U.S. Person for access to ITAR-Controlled Technical Data.
ITAR regulations dictate that information and material pertaining to defense and military related technologies may only be shared with US Persons unless authorization from the Department of State is received or a special exemption is used.
A "U.S. person" can be
     1. A U.S. citizen;
     2. A permanent resident who does not work for a foreign company, a foreign government, or a                 foreign governmental agency/organization;
