Position Summary and Responsibilities

Reporting to the VP of Operations, this position will lead, manage, and drive the production, operations engineering, Environmental Health and Safety (EHS), Quality, and supply chain organizations of Teledyne-Princeton Instruments. Teledyne-Princeton Instruments is a low to medium volume, high mix, manufacturing operation located in Trenton, NJ and Acton, MA.  The position will be in Trenton, NJ.


The successful candidate will be accountable for directing plant production and continuous improvement activities to produce quality products in a cost-effective manner.  We place a very high importance on manufacturing quality products and building good customer relationships. The individual hired for this position must strive to help us achieve these goals throughout their daily tasks.



  • Plan and achieve company revenue goals.
  • Develop and implement policies & procedures that utilize Lean principles to support all aspects of Manufacturing Operations, including the sub-elements of Supply Chain Management, Quality Assurance, Assembly/Test, and Production Program Management.
  • Ensure the requirements of the customer are met, optimizing product value, reducing cost, and insuring on time delivery.
  • Establish and attain defined objectives in quality, sales, profit, working capital, linearity, on-time performance, productivity, scrap/rework reduction, and safety.
  • Lead and direct the Operations teams in the reduction/elimination of operational waste, cycle time reduction, and cost control through deployment of 80-20 business activities.
  • Establish budgets, manufacturing and sourcing strategies, objectives, event timetables, policies, capital, and labor requirements to support business objectives
  • Direct staffing, training, and performance evaluations with the objective of developing a world class operations team.
  • Develop and implement manufacturing and sourcing strategy and readiness to support business objectives, including low-cost manufacturing planning.
  • Preparation for senior management approval of strategic plans in support of long-range/short range objectives, organization, establish budgets and strategies, event timetables, policies, capital requirements, and labor requirements.
  • Help develop and implement plans to transition products from engineering to manufacturing.
  • Travel to customer and supply chain sites to attend high level meetings and represent the company in a professional manner.


  • Five years or more of experience in a similar role.
  • Excellent understanding of manufacturing processes.
  • Well-developed leadership and people skills.
  • Experience using and implementing MRP/ERP systems.
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills.
  • Prioritizing skills are essential to this role.
  • Strong Organizational/Time Management Skills
  • Analytical Problem-Solving Skills
  • Team player, able to initiate corrective action in a positive manner
  • Comfortable using Microsoft Office – specifically Excel/Outlook
  • Travel: 25% to 35%


  • Bachelor’s degree in an Engineering (Mechanical/Manufacturing) discipline, or equivalent technical work experience.
  • Master’s degree in Engineering/ Operations/ Industrial Management preferred.
  • Experience with ERP Systems
  • Experience with ISO-9001
  • Proven record of success as a “hands on” operations management leader with at least 5-10 years’ experience in similar role with a history of progressively responsible career progression.
  • Must have experience in medium volume / high mix production environments preferably in high technology, electronics
  • Demonstrated history of successful change management and designing and implementing operational excellence improvements such as lean manufacturing, demand flow, and six sigma.
  • Strong communications, interpersonal, leadership, and organizational skills.
