The Mid-Level Modeling and Simulation Software Engineer will apply knowledge and techniques from the fields of software engineering or computer science to support requirements development, design, implementation, and testing of modeling and simulation software for the Naval Health Research Center. Our team create tools to equip military medical planners, providers, trainers, and logisticians with the capability to examine various courses of action before, during, and after deployment. The tools can be used to more effectively allocate resources, assess risks, estimate casualties, and determine mission readiness.

 

The candidate is expected to be an active member of the team, show initiative to resolve problems, meet project commitments, and effectively communicate issues and accomplishments to team members and customers. The candidate will be expected to mentor and/or lead other software engineers.

 

Day to day responsibilities include the following:

• Provide full life cycle support (requirements, design, implementation, test, and configuration management) in a CMMI Maturity Level 3 environment.
• Apply object-oriented design and development techniques primarily in the C# and C++ programming languages.
• Collaborate with customer and stakeholders to identify, develop, and document requirements.
• Collaborate with internal team members to produce software designs based on these requirements
• Present software designs to customer and stakeholders for approval.
• Collaborate with internal team members to implement software designs.
• Conduct code reviews for junior developers.
• Deliver presentations to internal team member and customers.

***This position requires the ability to obtain a DoD Security Clearance to the level of "Secret"***

 

Candidates must possess:

• B.S. degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, or a similar program.
• 8 or more years of professional software development experience.
• 5 or more years of programming experience in C#, C++ and .NET framework development.
• Experience with software development for Microsoft Windows applications.
• Experience with Windows Presentation Foundation (WPF), WinForms, and the Model-View-ViewModel (MVVM) design pattern.
• Experience with Microsoft Visual Studio and Azure DevOps, formerly Team Foundation Server (TFS)
• Experience with relational databases and Structured Query Language (SQL).
• Familiarity with Microsoft Office products.
• Strong written and verbal communications skills.
• Possession of excellent multi-tasking and organizational skills
• Ability and desire to learn new skills.

 

Desirable Skills and Characteristics:

• Experience developing M&S applications and a working knowledge of M&S concepts.
• Experience with third party components such as Infragistics, DevExpress, and ThinkGeo MapSuite.
• Familiarity with Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft Azure, or other cloud providers.
