Position Summary and Responsibilities

Teledyne Controls LLC is seeking a Senior Software Engineer for our Flight Data Acquisition platforms. We are looking to hire an individual with deep experience and understanding of analog inputs used to acquire and map dataframes for Flight Data Recorders, Quick Access Recorders, and Aircraft Condition and Monitoring Systems.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Write software code and complete programming for embedded avionics platforms and supporting tools (applications or firmware).
  • Perform design, analysis and verification testing of a functional component (e.g. software module, embedded software module) for new or existing products.
  • Participate in the testing process through test review and analysis, test witnessing, debugging, and certification of software.
  • May perform systems modeling, simulation and analysis in utility programs.
  • Advise hardware designers on machine characteristics that may affect software systems.
  • Act as a technical reviewer of existing designs and provides input for documentation of new or existing programs; integrates software with existing systems.
  • May interface with users to define system requirements and/or necessary modifications.
  • Support, maintain and document software functionality; documents and demonstrates solutions by developing documentation, flowcharts, layouts, diagrams, charts, code comments and clear code.
  • Propose concepts for improvements to existing techniques.
  • Evaluate and identify new technologies for implementation; improves operations by conducting systems analysis; recommending changes in policies and procedures.
  • Brief others on deliverables, status and progress.
  • Provides software support to other departments and personnel as needed.
  • Daily availability to include evenings and weekends when necessary to reach goals and deadlines.



  • Bachelor's degree (B.S.) from four-year college or university in a related field and 20 years of directly related experience and/or training OR equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience with architecting a robust, highly resilient and fault-tolerant distributed. 
  • avionics system, Developing FDIR (Fault Detection, Isolation & Recovery) algorithms.
  • Development of drivers and board-support packages (BSP).
  • Understanding of build tools and infrastructure (compilers, linkers, debuggers, C/C++ runtime libraries).
  • Detailed knowledge of software design from first principles on x86, ARM & PowerPC/MIPS architectures (bootloaders, startup code, C/C++ runtime implementation).
  • Advanced understanding of analog and digital aircraft interfaces including ARINC-429/717/MIL-STD-1553 data busses and dataframe development required.
  • Experience and understanding in software development process, methods and tools (Requirements based, agile, waterfall and iterative development using Synergy, Jira, Doors, and other tools.
  • Use and understanding of C/C++/Assembly/Python and other languages, and associated Compilers, used on various processor architectures as single program or multi-threaded application supported by an Operating System (e.g. MIPS, ARM, x86, MCUs, COTS Linux, GH RTOS/RTOS, other Operating Systems.
  • Understanding and practical use of FAA regulations, Order and Industry standards and specifications (e.g. DO-178).
  • This position requires up to 10% domestic travel with notice.
