Position Summary and Responsibilities

Teledyne is looking for an Engineer to support the development of advanced power systems.  The desired candidates for this position will have demonstrated interest and experience with modeling of thermal and fluid systems with a strong background in programming.  Candidates should demonstrate basic statistical and analytical skills.  The successful candidate will develop a thermal-thermoelectric analysis model utilizing in house developed multi-physics tools (similar to SINDA) as well perform thermal-fluid-chemical analysis for a variety of other power conversion technologies (fuel cells, batteries, Stirling engines, combustion systems).

 

Work Description:

  • Work with a Sr Staff Engineer, to develop finite difference models that accurately predict the performance of radioisotope thermoelectric generators.
  • Analyze and extract information from test data
  • Support test team with analytical results to drive test design
  • Prepare and update documentation and presentations of modeling results
  • Support thermal-structural analysis as needed
  • Secondary work elements will include thermal-fluid modeling of fuel cell and electrolysis systems using Matlab.
  • Maintain analytical models
  • Support verification, validation, and qualification of systems and system designs.
  • Interface with customers, write papers, and prepare proposals.
  • Must be able to travel, but expected to be less than 10%

Qualifications

Required:

  • BS in Engineering (mechanical preferred) with 2-5 years of relevant experience.
  • Use of any of the following: ANSYS, Sinda, or Matlab.
  • Experience programming with objects/classes (Matlab, C++, C#, Python, etc).
  • Good communication skills, encompassing direct customer interaction, report writing, and presentation skills.
  • Self-motivated and good problem-solving skills.
  • Takes ownership of work product and personally invests in the effort to produce high quality results.

Desired:

  • Experience modeling of one or more of the following: heat transfer, mass transport, stress/strain, thermoelectric, etc.
  • Experience preparing numerical models of mechanical and thermal devices.
  • Experience developing equations for physical processes and solve simultaneous equations.
  • Experience developing high performance applications using Intel MKL, BOINC, or Nvidia CUDA.
  • Experience developing artificial neural networks using Nvidia CuDNN.
  • Experience with Bayesian statistics.
  • Experience with CAD modeling (SolidEdge preferable).
  • Experience in one or more of the following power conversion technologies; thermoelectric or Stirling energy conversion, PEM fuel cell, small combustion systems, or similar energy storage and power conversion technologies.
