Position Summary and Responsibilities

TBE is developing an advanced high speed/hypersonic  (HS/H) Hot Air Tunnel (HAT) which will have the ability to maintain high quality flow characteristics and significantly advance the state of the art over current facilities. TBE is seeking a leader over the requirements definition, design,  fabrication/procurement, test and team of  HAT instrumentation and control systems and supporting instrastructure.

In addition to strong leadership qualities, this position will be required to have instrumentation experience that includes pressure and temperature sensors, and flow measurement systems. An example control system  which will be required to control the flow rate will employ Proportional, Integral and Derivative (PID) characteristics, and be accomplished with Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) techniques. The extreme pressures, temperatures, and flow conditions associated with the planned HS/H tunnel will require the Instrumentation and Controls department to be innovative in the application of techiques for meeting HAT requirements.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • B.S. in EE (advanced degree preferred). Other Engineering or technical degrees will also be considered.
  • Demonstrated abilities regarding team development, mentorship, conflict resolution, consensus building and other leadership traits.
  • Twenty (20) years of experience in the application of related instrumentation and controls is required. (Fewer years of experience will be considered along with an advanced degree.)
  • Experience in instrumentation and controls of wind tunnels, particularly at supersonic and hypersonic is highly desirable.
  • Experience with applications of thermocouples, resistance temperature detectors (RTDs), pressure transducers, strain gages, and other related test instrumentation is required.
  • Experience/expertise of high-speed data capturing, data reduction and filtering is highly desired.
  • Experience with instrumentation and PID control of systems involving extreme pressures, temperature, and flows is highly desired.
