    Position Summary and Responsibilities

    Teledyne is looking for an Engineer or equivalent to support the development of advanced lithium ion battery management systems (BMS) for custom batteries in challenging applications.  The desired candidates for this position will have controls related circuit board design and development experience, with an understanding of both configuration management and board fabrication.  System control algorithm development and programming skills a plus.  The successful candidate in this position would lead or support a range of activities from controls algorithms development, circuit design and board layout, prototyping and debugging as well as final product development for cutting edge lithium ion battery systems, and will also lead the implementation of the PCB product data management and fabrication capability.  The person in this position will be part of a team responsible for building and testing prototypes and products for unique and demanding applications.

     

    Work Description:

    • Circuit design
    • Component selection and modeling
    • PCB prototyping and design (OrCAD preferred)
    • PCB debugging
    • Support fabrication and assembly of breadboard and prototype systems
    • Validate and qualify components and system prototypes, including the design and implementation of custom test hardware and software
    • Develop in-house capability to fabricate PCB’s for customer applications
    • Working with the design manager, develop a data management system for the PCB

    Qualifications

    Education & Experience:

    Required:

    • BS in Electrical Engineering (MS will be considered a plus)
    • 5 or more years, or equivalent combination of education and experience
    • Experience with circuit design, component selection, simulation, and reliability assessment
    • Good understanding of PCB layouts practices, industry guidelines for signal integrity, reliability, and manufacturability per IPC standards
    • Experience with microcontrollers (AVR, ARM, MSP430, PIC, etc.) and/or FPGAs
    • Experience in hardware and software validation and testing
    • Basic knowledge of standard serial communication protocols (I2C, SPI, CAN, etc.)

    Desired:

    • Experience with design for manufacturability working with PCB/Substrate suppliers, applying best industry practices to reduce cost and maximize PCB yield.
    • Experience in hardware and/or software design for embedded systems
    • Demonstrated ability to develop system control algorithms
    • Programming skills (C, C++, Assembly, Verilog, QML, LabView, MATLAB)
    • Experience with hardware and software design for defense or aerospace applications
    • Understanding of CAN communication protocols.
    • Understanding of functional safety concepts like ISO 26262 (ASIL level compliance)
    • Experience with the design of graphical user interfaces for demonstration, programming, testing, and debugging of the custom embedded systems
    • Experience with power supply design, including rectifiers, switching mode regulators, power factor correction, and power path management
    • Familiarity with cell and battery charge/discharge practices as well cell balancing techniques
    • Knowledge of lithium ion electrochemistry and safety
