    Position Summary and Responsibilities


    • Provides technical leadership, guidance, and work direction for subordinate personnel, furnishing them with general instructions as to the scope and objectives of assignments while working under the supervision of a Technical Supervisor or under the direction of a Technical Manager. Makes work assignments based on individual capabilities and fluctuations in work load and priorities.
    • Performs as a leading specialist in a technical function such as analysis, design, development, or test, or in a supporting function such as liaison, configuration control, or quality analysis. Emphasis in these activities is on the practical, rather than academic, aspects of engineering and technology.
    • Participates in new and follow-on business development and proposal efforts. Coordinates and performs liaison with customers, subcontractor representatives, and other company organizations on problems relating to planning, scheduling, estimating, and availability of resources. Performs planning and estimating on jobs, using sound practices.
    • Directs test and evaluation projects. Develops procedures and determines test equipment and facility requirements. Provides technical direction to personnel in conducting tests and in the recording and reduction of data. Performs analysis of the data and prepares reports presenting the results.
    • Reviews drawings, parts lists, specifications, and technical reports to assure compatibility between systems, subsystems, and components. Assesses the impact of engineering changes. Monitors and controls engineering documentation for systems.   


    Requires approximately twelve years concentrated technical experience, or the equivalent in combined education and experience, including at least four years in responsible positions involving analysis, design, development, or test. However, assignments are primarily made on the basis of demonstrated technical and leadership ability.  The assignments in this classification require a high degree of specialization and practical knowledge, and a demonstrated ability to provide technical leadership to a group performing in a specialty area. Extensive knowledge and experience are generally used as a primary qualification for rendering technical decisions and services.
