    Position Summary and Responsibilities

    MAJOR DUTIES:

    • Lays out, cuts detailed parts, fits, and assembles fairly complex forms, shapes, and structures while working under the direction of a leader, higher classified fabricator, or a foreman. Builds the less complex fixtures, jigs, or templates of metal as necessary. Makes accurate mathematical calculations and uses precision measuring instruments as required.
    • Interprets blueprints and cuts stock into precise dimensions, using power-driven saws, hand shears, or similar equipment.
    • Performs skilled fitting and assembly of parts by welding, riveting, bolting, screwing, bonding or gluing. Grinds and sands completed parts and assemblies.
    • Sets up and operates shop machines such as power brakes, grinders, shears, punches, sanders, drills and power saws. Exercises considerable care of equipment, tools, parts, machines, and materials to prevent damage.
    • Practices on-the-job safety in performing assigned work and in usage of shop equipment. Maintains work area cleanliness as required.
    • Works from written or oral instructions in the necessary operations to meet schedules in compliance with job and quality standards. Demonstrates ability to perform job with least amount of scrap or rework possible.
    • Performs other related duties as assigned.

     

    Qualifications

    Requires a high school education or equivalent, including shop training, plus approximately four (4) years related fabrication experience.
