In the civilian space arena, Teledyne sensors are the most advanced sensors on board the Hubble space telescope, and they are also found on board the majority of NASA space probes and ground based telescopes. In the DoD arena, Teledyne sensors are integrated into several major systems for persistent surveillance, chemical detection, and target identification, among others.

    Position Summary and Responsibilities

    Position Summary:

    The Financial Analyst will play a key role in the company’s financial forecasting, cost accounting, management reporting, program business management and internal control processes. This role performs a wide range of budgeting, forecasting, accounting and operational analysis for Teledyne Scientific & Imaging.


    Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.


    ·       Financial Planning

    o   Consolidates and prepares the monthly rolling forecast, which includes preparation of an income statement and balance sheet. Understands working capital metrics and net cash flow

    o   Supports the preparation, submission and audit of Forward Pricing Rates to the Government. This includes forecasting direct bases and indirect expenses

    o   Supports the annual preparation of the Business Plan, this positions takes a lead role in working with the Business Unit Presidents and Market Segment leads to ensure orders, revenue and profit targets can be achieved

    o   Supports the preparation, review and analysis of financial charts for Quarterly and Monthly Operations Reviews

    o   Responsible for understanding indirect expense pools. Works with department managers to assist them with expense forecasting and providing actual to budget reporting and variance explanations.

    o   Maintains intermediate pool basis allocations, such as square footage, headcount and fringe allocations

    o   Weekly tracking and reporting of key financial metrics, such as orders, revenue and profit against plan and rolling forecast

    o   Assists Program Management with financial forecasts and analysis utilizing TM1. This includes analysis and forecasting of labor and material / services




    ·       Accounting Responsibilities

    o   Ensures correct revenue recognition methodology is being applied to fixed price contracts and understanding and compliance with revenue recognition methodology per GAAP and corporate guidelines

    o   Supports and contributes to an effective and timely month, quarter and year end close and provides variance explanations on results

    o   Works with multiple functional areas to ensure transactions are coded properly, critical understanding relationship of indirect cost pools, direct costs and capital purchases


    ·       Frequently works with Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system for tracking and reporting of data



    Qualifications & Competencies  


    To perform the job successfully, an individual should demonstrate the following qualifications and competencies:


    • Must be comfortable managing multiple projects with high priorities and ability to produce quality results in a tight timeframe
    • Ability to effectively interface with both internal and external management and personnel
    • Clearly communicates and presents data, both in writing and verbally
    • Knowledge of financial analysis/reporting, EVMS techniques, Cost Accounting Standards (CAS), FAR/DFAR, proposal pricing, and applicable government billing systems (WAWF) highly desirable
    • Knowledge of project management and project control tools such as Costpoint, TM1, MS Project, Excel, PowerPoint and Word
    • Displays exemplary ethics and business conduct and performs work cognizant of safe work practices



    Education and/or Experience


    ·       Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Economics, or related field

    ·       Experience in operational finance, including financial analysis, cost accounting, forecasting and planning, and accounting

    ·       Experience interacting with internal and external auditors
