    Position Summary and Responsibilities

    This position focuses on the management of the CAD (Computer Aided Design) design department. Major responsibilities include building a high functioning design  team, managing direct reports to create solid models and drawings using SolidWorks, and serve as a liaison with engineering, quality, purchasing, and manufacturing.  Will apply knowledge of design practices and interact with engineers to solve design issues.  Serve as process owner for product data management (PDM) tools and CAD design tools.

    Essential Duties and Work Description:

    • Responsible for creation of technical data packages on government programs; ensuring their completeness, accuracy, and adherence to standards
    • Support Engineering and Program Management to ensure design work on projects is properly staffed and completed on schedule and within budget
    • Establish and maintain configuration control over documentation using PDM system as well as inputting BOMs into ERP system
    • Develop, implement, and enforce CAD standards
    • Serve as the checker for the design group
    • Manage the design change control process
    • Work with Engineering team to develop cost and schedule estimates for design work
    • Provide leadership and vision to TESI in the area of CAD
    • Streamline design department efforts to reduce redundant work and non-value added processes
    • Provide mentoring, training, and supervision of CAD users
    • Work with IT to coordinate computer and software upgrades and maintenance
    • Serve as liaison with SolidWorks reseller on training, CAD support, resolution of technical issues



    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

    • Ability to organize teams and lead people
    • Proficient with SolidWorks with a thorough understanding of the software (this person needs to be the “go-to” CAD guru – willing to dig into the issues, explore options, think outside the box, and find a better way – more than just a CAD operator)
    • Design data management in a PDM environment
    • Manage departmental activities to achieve cost and schedule commitments on multiple programs
    • Ability to estimate Design activity from customer requirements
    • Ability to analyze data; competent in MS Office tools including intermediate to advanced MS Excel


    Education and Experience required:

    • Bachelor’s degree in relevant field
    • 5-10 years’ experience in a manufacturing environment, including prototype development
    • Supervisory experience
    • Configuration Control/Change Management
    • Experience managing design data with Product Data Management (PDM) software
    • Working knowledge of ASME Y14.100 and Y14.5 standards
    • Thorough understanding of Bills of Material (experience with ERP system desired)
