    Position Summary and Responsibilities

    Summary

    The Machine Shop supervisor works with management in meeting production schedules by supervising, training and coordinating the activities of a group of people involved in various machining operations of production parts to meet production requirements. This person will also oversee Environmental, Health, and Safety standards. 

     

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:

    • Assist management in maintaining production requirements by supervising, training and coordinating activities of assigned subordinates; expediting work schedule by establishing work procedures and assignments to appropriate subordinates.  Notifies Department Manager when problems in achieving the schedule arise.
    • Maintain a safe, effective, and efficient department by promoting a safe work environment.
    • Provide for an organized work environment by maintaining personal work area in a clean and orderly condition. 
    • Instruct employees in the proper safety procedures for the department and monitoring employee use of these procedures.
    • Comply with and enforce all company, state, and federal safety and health rules and regulations.
    • Maintain a high level of productivity, quality, and morale among subordinates by careful supervision including hiring and termination recommendation, training, work assignment, resolution of grievances, disciplining, performance evaluation, and recommending salary increases. 
    • Assist staff in setting work goals that will increase and/or enhance their capabilities and personal growth and supporting their advancement.
    • Maintain and improve product quality by ensuring parts conform to print specifications and is cosmetically acceptable; initiating corrective measures as needed that will prevent reoccurrence.   
    • Work alongside Assembly, Planning, Purchasing, Engineering, and Quality to promote team effort and improved work flows.
    • Adopt, support, and lead Lean improvements using Lean tools and practices within Shop and Production to optimize operations through safer and more efficient work flows.
    • Ensure production methods and procedures are updated by reviewing prints and preparing routing documents when necessary and recommending the purchase and/or fabrication of tooling and fixtures.
    • Monitor, update, and create area ISO documentation to correctly state processes and procedures. Ensure policy adherence by staff and processes.  Support audits and changes to comply with policy adherence and improvement
    • Certifying all subordinate time sheets are accurate in the system and verifying all entries made on 
    • Performs other specific duties or projects as assigned.

    Qualifications

    Education and/or Experience:

    Job requires an Associates in Machine Technology or related field.  Also, 6+ years of practical related experience in machining operations including 4+ years management experience in a manufacturing environment.   BS in Management and Lean experience are highly preferred.

     

    Computer Skills:

    To perform this job successfully, an individual should have in-depth knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, MRP/ERP systems and use of the Internet.

     

    Physical Activity:

    Job is classified as medium work. This job requires occasional reaching, pushing, and pulling. Job also requires regular fingering, occasional talking, and hearing.

     

    Mental Conditions:

    Work requires the ability to coordinate, analyze and compute information. Requires the ability to mentor, negotiate, instruct and supervise
